Privacy
Showdial needs very little about you, and keeps less.
Effective November 3, 2026.
In short
- No account, no sign-in, no ads, no tracking across apps or websites, and no analytics kits.
- We never sell or share your information for advertising.
- We don’t ask for your location. A ZIP code is optional, and you type it in yourself.
What the app sends us
- What you ask for, as text: a title, a team, a league.
- Your ZIP code, if you added one, with each question. We use it only for game answers, to find your local stations.
- An install token. The first time you ask something, your TV proves to our server that it’s running the real Showdial app (on Apple TV with Apple’s App Attest, on Android TV with Google Play Integrity), and our server gives this installation a random token. It is not linked to your Apple ID, Google account or other account, your name or your device’s identifiers.
- A report, only when you choose Report a problem: the answer you saw, including your ZIP code if it was part of the answer.
What we keep, and for how long
- Searches: the text of each question and how we answered it (how long it took, which source answered, whether it worked), to improve answers. Not your ZIP code, not your install token, not your IP address. Deleted after 12 months.
- Answers we’ve looked up are kept briefly so the next person asking gets a fast answer. Answers looked up with a ZIP code are deleted within 8 days.
- Reports: deleted after 12 months.
- Install tokens: kept while the installation is in use, so the app keeps working.
- Server logs record requests, which can include an IP address, to help us fix problems. They roll over within weeks.
- Backups of the above are kept for 30 days.
Who else sees it
To answer, we ask other services. They get the text of your question, never your ZIP code or install token:
- The Movie Database (TMDB) for titles and where they stream.
- An AI model run by DeepInfra, when our own sources can’t answer.
- Public web search engines, through our own search server, for the same questions.
Game schedules come from public sports listings; we fetch them without your question. Our server is reached through Cloudflare, which handles the connection (and so sees your IP address) for us. Apple (on Apple TV) or Google (on Android TV) checks the install proof described above, once per installation.
Children
Showdial isn’t directed at children and collects nothing that identifies anyone.
Your choices
Remove your ZIP code in Settings at any time. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your TV. Since we don’t keep anything that identifies you, we can’t look up your searches, but if you have a question about your data, email us.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and its date.
